Blue Light Acne Treatment: The Best Solution in Treating Acne

Posted by Acne Solutions on Monday, May 2, 2011

Almost everyone, aging from 13 to 40 years of age, is not spared from having problems with acne. Even I was not spared. Acne is a skin condition that occurs when there is a buildup of oil (sebum) blocked under the skin. This oil stimulates bacteria to multiply causing the tissues around it to get inflamed which lead to pimple occurring on the outer surface of the skin. Some would blame it on unstable hormones, oily food and stress but the actual cause of this is not certain. The good news is, gone were the days when a person has to undergo painful acne treatment.
Traditional treatment of acne would include having to endure the pricking of pimples to take out the white heads, blackheads and injections to extract the pus out from the bigger and stubborn zit. Zealous daily cleansing and application of topical ointment is then required. Others were given oral prescriptions and even advised to stay out of the glaring sun. So much fuss and so much hassle! Nowadays comparative studies have shown that the best solution to acne problem is Blue Light Acne treatment. This FDA approved blue light therapy is getting worldwide advertisement and recognition due to the high percentage of effective and painless treatments done on a big number of patients.
I would like to explain how this treatment works. A bacterium in our skin produces a product called Porphyrin which can absorb blue light. Once it absorbs this light, it will lead to a chemical reaction that destroys the bacteria that causes acne. Patients who come to me for Blue Light Acne treatment will certainly find it very comfortable and painless. Typically, a regular package would include eight 15-mins session of exposure to the light for a month's time. After each short session, patients can always go back to work or any normal routine without feeling any discomfort. There is no lesion on the skin thus it is painless. After a month of treatment, you will notice a lot of improvements and even clearing up in your skin.
There are some very slight side effects in this acne treatment like few skin pigment occurrences, stinging, swelling and skin dryness. All of which were found to be temporary.
So many people are coming to me because of the proven benefits and effective results brought by Blue Light Acne treatment. If you are having stubborn acne problems, you can be assured that it can now be easily treated.

Treating Acne Scars - 3 Most Successful Methods

Posted by Acne Solutions on Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Perhaps one of the most lasting effects of teenage acne is acne scarring. These scars can persist for years, never disappearing in quite a few cases. Even mild acne can scar, but most of the time is it severe acne that leave very visible scars. Popping pimples can lead to acne scars as well. There are a few things you can do to try and minimize scarring, but sometimes the scars happen and there is nothing you can do about it. This is especially true with severe forms of acne, such as cystic acne, where the acne lesions persist for weeks or sometimes months and leave behind very noticeable acne scars.
Types of Acne Scars
There are a few different classifications for acne scars, and may require differing treatment plans:
Ice pick scars are characterized by deep pits in the skin, and are the classic ance scar most people would think of first.
Boxcar scars are more angular, usually occur on the temples and cheeks, and vary in deptch from superficial to very deep. These scars often resemble chickenpox scarring.
Hypertrophic scars are thickened scars usually associated with the more severe types of acne. They are caused by repeated acne infections in the same spot, leading to a thickening of the scar tissue there.
There are other classifications for acne scars as well, but these are the more common types. See your dermatologist for more information on the types of scarring you may have.
Treating Your Acne Scars
Most successful acne scar treatment involves seeing a physician as the first step. The procedures to remove acne scars are usually surgical or at least require the assistance of a physician. There are several options available. Some of the more common are discussed below.
1. Punch Excision
This acne scar treatment basically uses a precise made-to-fit tool that exactly matches the shape of the scar to "punch out" the scar tissue. The wound is then sewn together and allowed to heal normally. This method can completely eliminate the scar if the new wound heals cleanly; even if it doesn't, the much smaller scar lends itself to easier laser resurfacing.
2. Laser Resurfacing
This procedure is both fast and popular. Usually an outpatient procedure, laser resurfacing involves actually burning away a very precisely calculated amount of skin at the site of the scar. The new skin that grows in will be smoother and reduces or eliminates the appearance of scars.
3. Dermal Fillers
This treatment is not a surgery, but involves the injection of a dermal filler like collagen directly into the site of a scar. This is best used on deep pit-type scars, as it works my raising the skin surface, filling out the pockmark.

Treating acne scarring is one of the greatest concerns of teenagers and young adults. Acne scarring can take the appearance of unsightly indentations, lumps or jab marks. This article will discuss how to prevent, reduce and remove acne scarring permanently.
Acne scarring is observed in different forms. These different forms of acne scarring classification came about as a result of medical professions studying the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of acne scarring conditions.
Ice pick acne scarring is large and deep and usually with open pores that look as though the skin has been stabbed with an ice pick (not an attractive appearance at all). This form of acne scarring is generally caused by cysts or pimples becoming infected and inflamed.
Acne pit scarring is the second form of acne scarring and these acne scars are depressed and sunken. This form of acne scarring occurs as a result of pimples or cysts becoming destroyed and forming acne pit scarring.
The next acne scarring classification is raised scars. This acne scarring occurs when cysts are clumped together. What then happens is that acne scarring tissues form which creates a very unpleasant mass or raised acne scar tissue on the skin surface.

Treating Acne Scars

Posted by Acne Solutions

Suffering acne outbreaks can be a very traumatic and harrowing experience, but in most cases it is only temporary, lasting from a few weeks to several years. Unfortunately, when acne scarring occurs, the disfiguration can be permanent. These days however, there are a number of very effective acne scar removal treatments which can completely erase scars or at least make them much less noticeable and easily disguised with makeup. Depending on the type of acne that you've had, or are experiencing now, your doctor or dermatologist will determine the method of acne scar removal treatment that is best suited to your circumstances.
Acne scar treatments are not cheap and can cost anywhere from $50 to over $3000. Less expensive acne scar treatments can always be tried first, especially if the scars are not too severe. Something to consider is that most acne scar treatments are NOT covered by health insurance plans - but check for the specific conditions where you live.
Antibiotics and acne creams are most commonly prescribed first to clear the skin and minimize further breakouts. Once the active acne regions of the skin have healed scar treatment can begin. Some common acne scar treatments are laser removal and dermabrasion, which are quite effective for removal of shallow scars. For mild cases chemical peels may be all that is required. Deeper acne scars may need punch techniques first followed by laser treatments. Many cases will require one or more treatments, or a combination of treatments to achieve the best results. Most acne scar treatments can be performed quickly and with minimal discomfort right in the office.
Generally acne scar treatments are short procedures - 15 minutes to an hour - but recovery times may range from immediate to many months. Scabbing, swelling, redness, dryness, flakiness, bruising and uneven skin tone are common post-treatment effects.
Dermabrasion works on shallow acne scars. It is the surgical technique of peeling away the damaged outer layer of skin containing the acne scars, from the skin layer below. It is a fairly harsh process requiring local anesthesia, but is effective as it allows the lower unscarred skin layers to take their place on the skin surface.
Laser resurfacing is a newer resurfacing technique which has gained immense popularity. Penetration depth into the skin is more easily controlled with a laser than with dermabrasion and other methods. It is less painful and has faster recovery times.
Chemical peels can be used in cases where acne scarring is only slight. They involve the application of chemicals to the skin in order to remove the scarred top layer, allowing the smoother under layer to come to the surface.
Subcision is a method whereby the scar tissue is broken up underneath the surface of the skin. The subsequent blood clot helps form connective tissue under the scar, making it become level with the surface and effectively removing the scar.
Punch techniques are used for deep acne scars. Punch excision involves removing the pitted scar tissue, followed by a skin graft or stitches. Punch elevation cuts the scar tissue holding the skin down and allows it to move back to the level of surrounding skin.
Dermal fillers are used for deeper acne scars. Collagen or fat is injected into the cavity under the scar which forces the skin surface back to the normal level. Injections only last about six months, although longer lasting materials are currently being researched.
Medications like Tetracycline are antibiotics that clear up acne by stopping infection and allowing the skin to heal naturally. However, after a while the bacteria can develop immunity to the antibiotics, in which case the infections can become even more severe and difficult to treat. Accutane is another medication that helps with acne scar removal. It has high doses of Vitamin A that eliminate oils from the skin, and cut down on the scarring by reducing infection. Note that you can't take Accutane at all if you are pregnant, or even might become pregnant, because it causes birth defects. Since there are potential side effects of both the antibiotics and Accutane, only a dermatologist should prescribe this type of acne scar treatment.

Preventing and Treating Acne Scars

Posted by Acne Solutions on Sunday, September 19, 2010

Physical scars are one of the most devastating effects that acne can leave behind. No matter the severity of acne, acne scarring can occur even in those suffering from the mildest form of acne. However, the more severe types of acne can leave scars that are much more visible and which can be really hard to get rid of even with the best medication.
Fortunately, the good news is that there are things you can do to treat and in many cases even prevent acne scars. For instance, you can avoid acne scars from forming by properly cleansing your skin and stopping popping zits. This does not mean scars won't develop but at least you'll have the possibility of avoiding them. For people suffering of severe types of acne the lesions on the skin stay for much longer periods of time than in milder forms, so acne scarring is almost inevitable in these cases. In cystic acne for instance, the nodules or cysts can stay on the skin for weeks (even months) and can leave behind very noticeable scars.
Each type of acne can leave different types of scars. So it's important to know the type of acne you have in order to treat it properly. You should also know about your skin type since treatment and scarring can both vary according to your skin type. Let's go over the different types of acne scars.
Ice pick scars are usually small, with a jagged edge. Although ice pick scars are very common, they are generally some of the easiest types of scars to treat.
Boxcar scars are angular scars. They usually affect the temple and cheeks, and can be superficial or deep. Boxcar scars are also very similar to those caused by Chickenpox.
There are also hypertrophic scars. These types of acne scars are thickened scars. Hypertrophic scars are also associated with some of the more severe types of acne.
Another type of acne scar is known as rolling scar. Rolling scars give the skin a wave-like look.
Acne scars are a very serious matter and getting rid of them is a real tough job. The best advice is to seek treatment through a physician. For many people, a certain combination of treatments turns out to give good results. But to get that right combination you need to consult a professional physician. There are key factors that will play a vital role in the success or failure of any acne treatments you use. Two of these factors include the type of scars you have and your skin type as well. Treating acne scars has been reported more successful for those on the face. On the other, treatment for those on the back and chest has given poor results.
Preventing acne from the onset is always the best thing to do in order to avoid acne scars. Prevention is always the ideal solution. However, for those who just become victims to this skin disorder, treating acne as quickly as possible after it appears can help prevent acne scars. So, a rule of thumb is to always take steps to fight and prevent acne to minimize the chance of having to deal with the formation of deep, lasting scars.
Also, as we've mentioned above, it is advisable to seek the help of a physician. This especially true when you are not sure how to best treat your acne or its scars. Note that for scars caused by severe types of acne such as cystic acne, medical attention is a must and not an option. Without this help, you won't have a chance at knowing what treatment will work best for your acne.
Having a clear understanding of your specific acne condition will help you work towards a possible solution. Your acne type, skin type and the type of scarring associated with your skin condition are three very important factors to have into account when deciding what treatment to employ.

Treating Acne - A Natural Approach

Posted by Acne Solutions on Thursday, September 16, 2010

One of the most common health problems affecting teenagers is acne. Acne is a skin lesion which is prevalent around the ages of puberty (8-12 in females, and 10-14 in males). Almost every one at one point or the other must have had contact with acne.
There are different kind of solutions for treating acne in the market. They could be in the form of creams, lotions, gels, or even pills. Most of them are chemicals which are intended to alter the normal physiology of our skin. Have you ever considered using natural methods to treat your acne instead of just dumping chemicals in your body?
No one really likes to have these annoying bumps on their face. But since acne or pimples come at a particular period of one's life, there is really nothing we can do about its occurrence. We can however control its appearance and reduce the symptoms. A much better way to do this is to put an end to it naturally without torturing your skin with synthetic products. Some of the methods you can use to tackle acne are discussed below.
Diet and Exercise
Apart from doing anything external to the face, there is a way our diet affects our skin, especially in severe cases of acne (cystic acne). In situations such as this, one would need to follow a regulated diet in order to prevent further eruptions. Generally, it is best to avoid oily foods, especially fried foods. Also avoid ingestion of tobacco, caffeine, and carbonated drinks. What do you take instead? Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. As some people say, "one apple a day keeps the doctor away." Drink plenty of water, particularly with honey and lemon.
Apart from diet, exercise is also important in controlling acne. Exercise has been found to help your skin breathe. It also aids in removing oil, dirt and toxins away from your skin. This therefore provides a natural way of cleansing and purifying the skin. Another benefit of exercise is that it reduces stress, a major cause of acne eruptions.
Skin Care
Apart from diet and exercise, specific routines on how to work on your skin in order to treat and prevent acne is as follows:
1. Touch not: Avoid touching your face too many times. This is because repeated touching and picking of pimples would only lead to more scarring, which you would not want. If you would not touch, then wash your face as many times as possible. Try and limit the use of synthetic agents, such as cosmetics (make up).
2. Honey: Research as shown the usefulness of honey in the management of many medical conditions, acne inclusive. Honey serves as an emollient and also as a natural moisturizer. It also has antibacterial properties. Just apply it for a few minutes to your face, then wash it away. This can be done just before a shower.
3. Increase the intake of essential vitamins such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E daily. You can also supplement your diet with zinc and chromium.
4. Apply Aloe-Vera paste to your face, especially directly on the pimples and the scars. This is one of the fastest and best ways to treat pimple scars naturally.
If you have never tried any of these methods yet, now is the best time to start. You can start with washing your face, then proceed to using the other therapies.

Salicylic acid is a type of BHA or beta hydroxy acid. It helps to cure acne by dissolving dead skin cells and opening up clogged pores. I would say it's very effective at doing what it's meant to do.
