Nobody likes having a pimple or blemish on their face for the world to see. It can be embarrassing and unsightly and almost inviting you to just squeeze it away. However, to get rid of a pimple properly and avoid an even worse blemish nightmare, there is a right way to pop a pimple if you must pop it in the first place.
1. Make sure the pimple is ready to be popped. The best way to find out is to see if it has come to a "head", where white blood cells have blocked off the follicle and have formed a white "head". If it does not have a white head, it is not ready to be popped. Squeezing it could only make it worse and lead to bleeding, scarring, and a lot of pain.
2. Make sure to wash your face and hands with soap and warm water. Pat your skin dry.
3. Sterilize the tip of a needle with a flame from a lighter or a match. Wait for the needle to cool and wipe it clean with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol or alcohol wipe.
4. Using another wipe or cotton ball with rubbing alcohol to clean on and around the pimple that is going to be popped.
5. Align the needle parallel to your skin and poke the head of the pimple with the needle tip. Staying parallel, push the needle through the other side the pimple and pull up. This opens the blemish and allows the white-ish "pus" to come out. If there's nothing coming out of the pimple, it wasn't ready to be popped.
6. After popping, push down around the blemish one side at a time. Squeezing can cause the blemish to rupture deeper into your skin. This causes additional inflammation.
7. Rub the area with a clean alcohol wipe and apply some witch hazel if you have any. You can follow that up with an acne spot treatment to help create a barrier between the pimple and makeup or anything else that may come into contact with your skin.
If the pimple gets worse over time, visit a dermatologist for examination. Otherwise, this is the safest way to pop a pimple and maintain healthy skin.
