Preventing And Getting Rid Of Acne

If you are serious about getting rid of your acne there are several steps you can take of your own that should have a positive effect on your breakouts. First of all, stop using harsh cleansers on your skin. Using a harsh cleanser will dry out the skin and may temporarily improve your acne symptoms, but in the long run your acne is likely to come back even worse than before. The reason this happens is that your body always tries to maintain a balance so if it feels your skin is becoming too dry it will over compensate for that by really increasing the oil production in your pores and glands. It's a very vicious cycle and can leave you with acne worse than ever.

One easy way to get off the harsh cleanser roller coaster is to bathe more often. Taking a shower or bath both in the morning and at night and using a gentle soap is a good start. This step alone could have a dramatically positive impact on your acne.

The next step is for you to round up all your cosmetics, make up and hair products and discard all of them that are oil based. It's the excess oil on your skin that causes acne for many, so why would you want to put even more oil onto your skin if you are already having acne problems? Getting rid of these products will also make the first step easier since it is likely that the reason you need such harsh cleansers is to clean off all the oil based goop you are putting on your skin and in your hair.

My next suggestion is for you to keep your hands away from your face. Many people with acne think that by picking at the pimples or squeezing them they are helping them to heal faster, but nothing could be further from the truth. For one thing, your fingers have all sorts of bacteria and oils on them that just serve to make your acne worse. And squeezing is the worst thing you could do because when you squeeze that pimple you are not just driving stuff out of the pimple, you are also driving stuff (namely bacteria and fluids) deeper into the pores. This can lead to infections, increased breakouts and can even damage the oil producing glands.

Finally, take a look at your diet and make an effort to avoid oily snacks and fast foods and include more fresh fruits and vegetables. The saying goes "you are what you eat" and in this case it's true. The more high fat and oily foods you eat the more oil you will be adding as fuel to your acne fire. This step will not only benefit your acne problem, but will also help you keep an ideal weight and have more energy.

There you have 4 fairly easy ways to reduce your acne problems all by yourself. Give them a try and I'll bet after a few weeks you will see a noticeable improvement in your complexion.
