The problem on acne is considerably known to many teenagers and adults. Acne in the United States alone has an effect on nearly 17 million people with maximum cases affecting the age group of 12-25. Acne could be of different types: blackheads (closed comedos) - partially blocked pores that appear as black-looking spots on the skin, whiteheads (open comedos) - completely blocked pores that result in white-looking spots on the skin, papules- the pink bumps people normally think of when they think of acne, pustules- red bumps with a white center, nodules- large, hard bumps underneath the skin and cysts- pus-filled nodules.
Acne has several causes identified, some of these are: heredity, excess oils caused by increased levels of hormones or hormonal change common in adolescence stage and pregnant women. The excess oil produced by the sebaceous glands, called the sebum, with dead skin cells, clogs the follicles commonly known as pores that results to pimples, zits or spots. Stress, poor hygiene, and use of some cosmetics or skin products may also cause acne.
There are also false facts that have been known to cause acne. One of these said causes is chocolates. These sweet and delicious candies or desserts are being held responsible for the problems on acne, causing plenty of chocolate lovers to sigh. But as stated, chocolates that causes acne are nothing but myths or bogus statements.
As advancement in Science and Technology is concerned, there is no proof or evidence that food or diet is directly responsible for the appearance of pimples. Instead it is suggested by recent scientific studies that chocolates increase the serotonin production in the brain which enhances calming effect and stability which means less stress for the mind and body. Stress, considered as a cause on the dilemma of acne is reduced by chocolates which mean it might also be a factor to prevent or control formations of acne and possible breakouts. Plus, chocolates also provide antioxidants for our body to stay clean and healthy, which is also reflected by our skin.
